Earworm Wednesday: St. James Infirmary Blues~ The Speakeasies Swing Band

Whether it is Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, or Hugh Laurie this classic blues song has been on my mind all this week.

So here is the Speakeasies Swing Band with St James Infirmary Blues.

God Routs Fear
“Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel” (Numbers 23;23).

How this should cut up root and branch all silly, superstitious fears! Even if there were any truth in witchcraft and omens, they could not affect the people of the LORD. Those whom God blessed, devils cannot curse.

Ungodly men, like Balaam, may cunningly plot the overthrow of the LORD’s Israel; but with all their secrecy and policy they are doomed to fail. Their powder is damp; the edge of their sword is blunted. They gather together; but as the LORD is not with them, they gather together in vain. We may sit still and let them weave their nets, for we shall not be taken in them. Though they call in the aid of Beelzebub and employ all his serpentine craft, it will avail them nothing: the spells will not work, the divination will deceive them. What a blessing this is! How it quiets the heart! God’s Jacobs wrestle with God, but none shall wrestle with them and prevail. God’s Israels have to prevail against them. We need not fear the fiend himself, nor any of those secret enemies whose words are full of deceit and whose plans are deep and unfathomable. They cannot hurt those who trust in the living God. We defy the devil and all his legions.

Frenetic Friday

From my sickbed I pen these few notes in my trembling hand…

Alphabet time once again!

Now this maybe hard to believe after all the drag queen story hour articles but here is a drag queen that says: Moms keep your kids away! (Warning coarse language)

Imagine that, nudity, drugs, sexual acts.  Why in the name of everything good and holy would you expose a child to this?  And yet there is this:

But now for something quite similar…

Do you know who Fallon Fox is?  He is a transgender MMA fighter who fights in the women’s division.  And has been named in an article in Outsports as the bravest athlete ever.  Now, if you’re unfamiliar with Fox he in his bouts fractured twice the skulls of his female opponents. In one bout he:

secured a grip on Newsome’s head… With her hands gripping the back of Newsome’s skull, she delivered a massive knee, bringing her leg up while pulling her opponent’s head down. The blow landed on Newsome’s chin and dropped her, unconscious, face-first on the mat.

That blow ended Newsome’s career in the sport. Also Newsome never knew that Fox was born a man and surgically altered to appear as a woman.

Tamikka Brents Fox’s other opponent, of whom Fox broke seven orbital bones and gave her a concussion said this:

I’ve fought a lot of women and have never felt the strength that I felt in a fight as I did that night,” Brents said, recounting her experience fighting Fox. “I can’t answer whether it’s because she was born a man or not because I’m not a doctor. I can only say, I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life and I am an abnormally strong female in my own right… I still disagree with Fox fighting. Any other job or career I say have a go at it, but when it comes to a combat sport I think it just isn’t fair.

Joe Rogan said of Fallon Fox:

Fight guys, yes. She has to fight guys. First of all, she’s not really a she. She’s a transgender, post-op person. The operation doesn’t shave down your bone density. It doesn’t change. You look at a man’s hands and you look at a women’s hands and they’re built different. They’re just thicker, they’re stronger, your wrists are thicker, your elbows are thicker, your joints are thicker. Just the mechanical function of punching, a man can do it much harder than a woman can, period.

But according to Outsport’s Cyd Zeigler Fox deserves this title because of his bravery against all the hatred directed towards him.   Right.

There is no consensus among sporting organizations as to what gives a man enough of a disadvantage to compete against women. The International Olympic Committee says that a male needs to suppress testosterone to be at or below 10 nanomules per litre of blood for a period of one year prior to competition. Females who take testosterone would need years of hormones to get up to that.

Muscle mass does not substantially decrease with hormone treatment. Eradication of genitals does not diminish bone density. There are no cohesive Federal laws in the US to determine what makes a male eligible to compete against women, and while males have won women’s championships, female-bodied athletes have not risen to the upper levels of male competition. <article by The Postmillenial>

Fallon Fox himself said this:

My teammates had no idea I was trans. They recognized my endurance, my strength, my ability to cut weight in the same category as cisgender women. There was no idea in their minds that I didn’t belong. They weren’t thinking, ‘oh my God, she’s going to kill somebody.’”

And now the a statement by the Church of England:

According to the Guardian the Church of England has said that sex is reserved for only heterosexual married couples and that gay or straight civil unions should be abstinent.  This is made clear  by the Bishops in a pastoral guidance.

In the statement the Bishops say:

For Christians, marriage – that is, the lifelong union between a man and a woman, contracted with the making of vows – remains the proper context for sexual activity.”

The church “seeks to uphold that standard” in its approach to civil partnerships, and “to affirm the value of committed, sexually abstinent friendships” within such partnerships.

It adds: “Sexual relationships outside heterosexual marriage are regarded as falling short of God’s purpose for human beings.”

So the Bishops have come out, no pun intended, for traditional Christian marriage.

Of course this has raised the ire of the supporters of the Alphabet Collective which has said this:

The C of E is unable to get over its fixation on homosexuality, which is driving the the national church into a position more like a fundamentalist sect and does not speak to the vast majority of younger people today quoted by Linda Woodhead, professor in the department of politics, philosophy and religion at Lancaster University

Well I for one say Huzzah! Thank you Church of England for standing with traditional, biblical, Christian marriage.

Ok just a few more things. Yes that means once again that its time for something against feminism.

In this case I am going to link you to an article by Marlo Safi in The Spectator called:  All I dream of is becoming a tradwife.   Yes the article is humorous, and in case you’re wondering tradwife, you hipsters with your new fangled jive, is traditional wife.

Oops did I do that?  Well go read the article it is great and well worth your time.

Yes! Another Robotic Overlords report it is amazing!

Biological robots, are you scared?  Well I for one welcome our biological Robotic Overlords.

Lastly, and seriously, I am currently trying to ride out a bout of pneumonia which can be serious in person of my age.  I am desperately attempting to rest and stay out of the hospital.  Also my daughter is suffering from a virus infection so we are both running around with masks over our face so we don’t make each other worse.  I covet your prayers for my family’s health and recovery.  Thank you.

Theology Thursday: Saved into Good Works

WALTER MARSHALL
God saves us from our sinful uncleanness by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost, as well as from hell hereafter (Ezek. 36:29; Titus 3:5). Christ was called JESUS, that is, a Saviour, because He saved His people from their sins (Matt. 1:21). Therefore it is a part of our salvation to deliver us from our sins, which is begun in this life by justification and sanctification, and perfected by glorification in the life to come.

Though we are not saved by good works, as procuring causes, yet we are saved to good works, as fruits and effects of saving grace, which God has prepared that we should walk in them (Eph. 2:10). It is, indeed, one part of our salvation to be delivered from the bondage of the covenant of works; but the end of this is, not that we may have liberty to sin (which is the worst of slavery) but that we may fulfill the royal law of liberty, and that we may serve in newness of spirit and not in the oldness of the letter (Gal. 5:13; Rom. 7: 6). Yea, holiness in this life is such a part of our salvation as is a necessary means to make us suitable to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in heavenly light and glory; without holiness we can never see God (Heb. 12:14), and are as unfit for the glorious presence as swine for the presence chamber of an earthly prince. I confess, some may be converted when they are so near the point of death that they may have little time to practice holiness in this world, but the grace of the Spirit is active like fire (Matt. 3:11), and, as soon as it is given, it will immediately produce good inward working of love to God and Christ and His people. This will be sufficient to manifest the righteous judgement of God in saving them at the great day, when He shall judge every man according to His work; though some possibly may not have so much time to discover their inward grace in any outward works, as the thief upon the cross (Luke 23: 40,43). . .

Great multitudes of ignorant people that live under the gospel harden their hearts in sin, and ruin their souls for ever, by trusting on Christ for such an imaginary salvation as does not consist at all in holiness, but only in forgiveness of sin and deliverance from everlasting torments. They would be free from the punishment due to sin, but they love their lusts so well that they hate holiness, and would not be saved from the service of sin. The way to oppose this pernicious delusion is not to deny, as some do, that trusting on Christ for salvation is a saving act of faith, but rather to show that none do or can trust on Christ for true salvation, except they trust on Him for holiness; neither do they heartily desire true salvation, if they do not desire to be made holy and righteous in their hearts and lives. If ever God and Christ give you salvation, holiness will be one part of it; if Christ does not wash you from the filth of your sins, you have no part with Him (John 13:8). What a strange kind of salvation do they desire, that do not care for holiness? They would be saved, and yet be altogether dead in sin, aliens from the life of God, bereft of the image of God, deformed by the image of Satan, his slaves and vassals to their own filthy lusts, utterly unsuitable for the enjoyment of God in glory. Such a salvation as that was never purchased by the blood of Christ, and those that seek it abuse the grace of God in Christ and turn it into lasciviousness.

Mouth Confession; Heart Belief
“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved”   (Romans 10:9).

There must be confession with the mouth. Have I made it? Have I openly avowed my faith in Jesus as the Savior whom God has raised from the dead, and have I done it in God’s way! Let me honestly answer this question.

There must also be belief with the heart. Do I sincerely believe in the risen LORD Jesus? Do I trust in Him as my sole hope of salvation? Is this trust from my heart? Let me answer as before God.

If I can truly claim that I have both confessed Christ and believed in Him, then I am saved. The text does not say it may be so, but it is plain as a pikestaff and clear as the sun in the heavens: “Thou shalt be saved.” As a believer and a confessor, I may lay my hand on this promise and plead it before the LORD God at this moment, and throughout life, and in the hour of death, and at the Day of Judgment.

I must be saved from the guilt of sin, the power of sin, the punishment of sin, and ultimately from the very being of sin. God hath said it — “Thou shalt be saved.” I believe it. I shall be saved. I am saved. Glory be to God forever and ever!

Loved unto the End”
“For the LORD will not cast off for ever” (Lamentations 3:31).

He may cast away for a season
but not forever. A woman may leave off her ornaments for a few days,
but she will not forget them or throw them upon the dunghill. It is not
like the LORD to cast off those whom He loves, for “having loved his own
which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” Some talk of our
being in grace and out of it, as if we were like rabbits that run in and
out of their burrows; but, indeed, it is not so. The LORD’s love is a
far more serious and abiding matter than this.

He chose us from eternity,
and He will love us throughout eternity. He loved us so as to die for
us, and we may therefore be sure that His love will never die. His honor
is so wrapped up in the salvation
of the believer that He can no more cast him of than He can cast off
His own robes of office as King of glory. No, no! The LORD Jesus, as a
Head, never casts off His members; as a Husband, He never casts off His
bride. Did you think you were cast off? Why did you think so evil of the
LORD who has betrothed you to Himself? Cast off such thoughts, and
never let them lodge in your soul again. “The LORD hath not cast away
his people which he foreknew” (Romans 11:2). “He hateth putting away”
(Malachi 2:16).

Frenetic Friday

From the lethargic mire a hand struggles, rises, grasps the (metaphorical) pen and begins to write.

Oh yeah I have a blog maybe I should write something seeing its a new year and all.

Speaking of New Year’s resolutions have you finally floundered and given up? I have made one resolution this year and that was not to make any resolutions. So far I have been able to keep this but we’ll if I can keep it.

If you are planning on reading the bible in a year Ligonier Ministries has a series of plans you maybe interested in you can find them here: Bible Reading for 2020.

Personally I have started the M’Cheyne audio bible podcast, ESV, as I find I easier to listen to the bible being read to me. I especially like this podcast as it is is just an articulate speaker reading the various verses. There is no commentary unlike some other bible reading podcasts.

But this is a Frenetic Friday so let’s get into it.

Yes here we are the first culture war post of the year. And I am about to make a suggestion, there is a term that has been used during oh at least the passed decade maybe more that I think needs to be retired. Post Christian culture. Let’s quit pretending that Christian culture is still the guiding force behind anything in the western world. We have slipped into pagan culture whether you call it secular, post modern, or whatever it no longer has any basis in Christianity and is actively opposed to it. The war has started and we are still trying to appease the enemy like Chamberlain did in England.

So on yesterday’s briefing (ht: Albert Mohler) a new app was discussed this app matches men and women who want to be parents. The article (click link) tells how some women who want children, but not marriage per se are looking for not just a sperm donor but someone who will also commit to being a father to the child. So all the benefits of marriage but none of the commitment. Or as they put in the article:

“that match would-be parents who want to share custody of a child without any romantic expectations. It’s a lot like a divorce, without the wedding or the arguments.”

So here we are marriage has become a non thing. And this is what I mean by by saying post christian should no longer be the designator of what the contemporary culture is, christianity defined what a family should be. That is no longer the case. Now the pagan culture defined what is family and it makes sure that it isn’t what is defined by scripture.

Well moving forward now that we are in the “twenties” I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at how our future over lords are progressing in their overthrow of humanity. And for that we turn to Japan. Here is the latest:

And with that dear readers I bid you good night. Thanks for sticking around with me.
