Frenetic Friday

Frenetic Friday now with even more irony!

First I’d like to applaud Micah over at Christian Manliness for coming out of the closet and revealing that he is polyamorous. It takes a brave man to reveal this. Read more about it here: Coming out of the closet: I’m polyamorous

So we are coming close to graduation season and typically schools bring in speakers for the commencement address.  One such commencement address was made by President Obama to the United States Coast Guard Academy.  In this the president said this:

Understand, climate change did not cause the conflicts we see around the world.  Yet what we also know is that severe drought helped to create the instability in Nigeria that was exploited by the terrorist group Boko Haram.  It’s now believed that drought and crop failures and high food prices helped fuel the early unrest in Syria, which descended into civil war in the heart of the Middle East.  So, increasingly, our military and our combatant commands, our services — including the Coast Guard — will need to factor climate change into plans and operations, because you need to be ready.  <source>

Cal Thomas having read this responded thusly:

Linking the rise of Islāmic terrorism to a warming planet, the president told the grads, “Understand, climate change did not cause the conflicts we see around the world. Yet what we also know is that severe drought helped to create the instability in Nigeria that was exploited by the terrorist group Boko Haram. It’s now believed that drought and crop failures and high food prices helped fuel the early unrest in Syria, which descended into civil war in the heart of the Middle East.”

Really? Are young girls and women being raped and forced into slavery because religious fanatics can’t grow crops on arid land? Marie Harf, a State Department spokeswoman, recently claimed that lack of jobs is what turns people into terrorists. Which is it?

If “climate change” made terrorism possible, how does the president explain violent jihadism dating back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad, long before carbon was a concern, or even a footprint? If unemployment causes terrorism, millions of jobless Americans would be taking up arms.

No amount of evidence will dissuade a climate change cultist that he is wrong, but for students who might Google the subject for a term paper, let’s try.

Responding to the president’s address, Marc Morano, who runs climatedepot.com (with numerous links to scientific studies, including data from NASA, NOAA, and other credible sources) said this: “It is hard to even take today’s speech by Obama seriously on either a logical, scientific or political level. The speech was so farcical in its claims that it hardly merits a response. It is obvious that the climate establishment is seeking new talking points on ‘global warming’ to change the subject from the simple fact that global temperatures are not cooperating with their claims.” <source>

Recently a lot of people are claiming that Christianity is dying out.  Young people are leaving churches and there are more “nones” then ever before.  Well I think Adam4d actually explains it.

Speaking of young people leaving church here are two excellent posts from Fred Butler regarding young people leaving church:

Those Dastardly Young People Leaving Church

The Real Reasons Why Youth Are Leaving Church

And last but not least an update from our Robotic Over Lords!

Here we have a robot learning to shoot arrows.  You may scoff but how soon will it be before we see a real robot learning to fire a handgun.

Thanks and come back next week.

  1. I claimed some months ago, “best one yet.” It has now been bested. Just my humble opinion of course, as that is the only one I possess.
