Q. 109. What is Prayer?

A. Prayer is an offering up of our desires to God, for things agreeable to His will, in the name of Christ, with confession of our sins and thankful acknowledgment of His mercies.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:14

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6

O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
Psalm 10:17

He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
he also hears their cry and saves them.
Psalm 145:19

Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
John 14:13-14
