Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy

Director James Gunn

Actors: Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana

Plot:  Young Peter Quill is abducted from earth on the night of his mother’s death by a group of space pirates called the Ravagers and their leader Yondu.  Twenty-six years later Peter is on an abandon planet looking for a mysterious sphere where he is confronted by the minions of Ronan the Accuser a kree fanatic who wants the sphere to wipe out the planet Xandar. Once there on Xandar Peter’s day gets worse and he ends up in prison.  Peter then builds a rag tag team of characters to stop Ronan and save the planet Xandar.

The term you want for this film is escapist.  It has plot holes without a doubt but you don’t care because this is FUN!  Oh my is this fun.  Chris Pratt is perfect as this put upon character that has a little bit of Indiana Jones, a little bit of Han Solo with a touch of sexy stupid just to make it interesting.  Then Bradley Cooper comes in and steals every scene possible as a talking raccoon and the ones he doesn’t steal Vin Diesel does with his “I am Groot”.  Zoe Saldana is sexy and deadly as a green skinned assassin  that develops a conscience and is trying her best not the succumb to the magic pelvis of Peter Quill.

And the sound track, oh boy the sound track makes this movie even more enjoyable classic rock and roll hits from everyone like David Bowie to the Runaways. Just perfect.

I really enjoyed this movie and it was easy to just relax and let the story wash over you. I laughed multiple times and found myself tapping my toe to the music.  At the risk of being redundant this film is fun if you want to have fun go see this film.

I give this film four stars out of five.
