Q. 70. What is required in the fifth commandment?

A. The fifth commandment requires the preserving the honor, and performing the duties, belonging to every one in their several places and relations, as superiors, inferiors, or equals.

“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God:I am the Lord.”
Leviticus 19:32

Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
1Peter 2:17

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Romans 13:1

submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:21-22

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.
Ephesians 6:1,5,9

Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.  Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye- service, as people- pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.
