This is my favorite adaption of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. Alastair Sims does a perfect portrayal of the miser Scrooge. The set pieces are perfect evoking England in the 1840’s where poverty was the major killer of children. The filming in black and white helps accent the poverty of the characters.
Portrayed also is the humble faith of the poor trusting Christ and the hope found in the scriptures. This one of the few adaptions where you see the characters actually reading from the bible.
If your traditions extend to watching holiday themed movies at this time please consider Scrooge.
I give this film five out of five Christmas Carols.
